  Jim Thompson
Elite level Tennis and Fitness Coach

Coaching Philosophy: My philosophy is- "less talk, more action." I want my players to play with a purpose, build a strong foundation and treat triumph and disaster just the same. My definition of a champion is someone who, when faced with adversity is able to battle and when successful is humble. "I try to teach not only by words but also by example; every lesson with me includes live ball rallying with my students"

Jim has been working part time as a tennis professional for more than 20 years and has been a hitting partner and coach to several nationally ranked juniors.

This USPTA pro has been a successful player himself, many times ranking in the top five in the state of Florida and also achieved the #1 Ranking in his division 3 times in the late 1980's and 90's and has been part of a National level NTRP team twice, the first time for a team out of Orlando Tennis Center (OTC) , and the second time for (Please see the sign posted at Sanlando Park in Altamonte Springs showing the names of the great team I was proud to be part of) .

Jim believes his playing ability and his patience are his greatest strengths as a teaching professional. "I feel I can quickly modify a fed-ball instructional lesson into a hitting lesson in a very quick fashion depending on the needs of my students," he says. "I enjoy working with beginners and advanced students of all ages. I try to teach like I play: Leaving it all out on the court!

Women's Leagues

I have had the great pleasure of coaching many teams out of Alaqua Lakes, Orlando Tennis Center, and Austin Tennis Academy in Texas, Lake Cane, and Ft Gatlin. Over the years to championships.

"I would consider my greatest accomplishment as tennis pro to be the many students I have taught the game to from the very beginning, including my own two sons who are very accomplished players and enjoy the game," Jim says.

"My goal is to continue to help many folks learn this great game of tennis and help my younger son, Jimmy (9 years old) (Multiple time tournament winner and Ranked in Florida and Texas in the boy's 10's division, enjoy his junior tennis experience," he says. Both Jimmy and Jonathan, 21(former highly ranked junior player), are "great sons and students."

Jim also has 20 years' experience in software system testing for Materials Management, as well as Human Resources and tennis center management. Highlighting his career outside the tennis industry, he says, are "the many software implementations I have led and been part of as a team with the ultimate goal always to ensure customer satisfaction." Examples are P2k for Convergys, Lawson for ORHS and HR Systems for Best
